Earthquake Scenarios are done in mitigating potential impacts of earthquakes , particularly “The Big One “. An earthquake scenario is an assumed hazard scenario describing the estimated ground shaking ( intensity ) , potential hazards, and impacts that can be caused by a specific earthquake. It also serves as a planning tool used to understand a potential future earthquake, plan accordingly, and take appropriate steps. The term “ Big One “ is used in many parts of the world. It is a term used to describe damaging and strong earthquake scenarios . In the Philippines, it is often equated to the worst- case earthquake scenario in the greater Manila area, but as a part of the west valley point, Cavite is also a part of it.
What is the importance of Earthquake scenarios?According to Phivolcs director Dr. Renato Solidum Jr. “ We need to take into consideration that we want individuals to imagine the risk that they may face properly so that they have informed decision.” He also added that this can be used by local government units to formulate strategies for mitigation , response , and coordination during disaster.
The Activity was in collaboration with the office of Civil Defense Region 4A, PHIVOLCS, and the Metro Manila Development. The Big one refers to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake predicted to hit the Philippines, especially the Luzon area as a result of the movement of the west Valley Fault. The VIPER project aims to enhance the capacity of the province of Cavite to prepare, respond and operationalize a contingency plan for the Big One and preparation and planning.
The Project has 3 stages with ADRA being the lead agency of the stage , heading the overall management of the project.
Stage 1 involves development of a contingency plan, facilitation of an effective regular monitoring of the project implementation including the conduct of the post activity assessment to measure the achievement of the project , among others.

Meanwhile, the provincial government through its provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office (PDRRMO) will handle
Stage 3 Which is the actual implementation of the developed contingency plan. This will entail the provision of technical assistance or services of competent local service providers to assist in the implementation of the project stage , in accordance with the law on procurement.
To cope with the complex factors of vulnerability to floods of the area due to typhoon
Our village is in a high area so flooding seldomly happens but with the presence of a lot of trees and uncemented areas, information dissemination in case of typhoons is done by the homeowner association with regards to typhoons especially done during forecasted typhoons. Checking of roofs and electrical lines are regularly done so as always to be prepared for typhoons. Drainage systems are also regularly checked and cleaned by each homeowner so as to prevent flooding which might be caused by strong typhoons.
